Memorial Service is Wednesday for Johns Creek Child Who Died in Ski Accident

Tyler Wahl Safarriyeh was a fifth-grader at Findley Oaks Elementary.

Spring Break ended tragically for one Johns Creek family when Tyler Wahl Safarriyeh, an 11-year-old fifth-grader at , died suddenly on Friday, April 8, in a ski accident in Winter Park, Colo.

Tyler was the son of Jeffrey and Carrie (Pennington) Safarriyeh. According to a family-placed obituary on 's Web site, a public memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at with Senior Pastor D.B. Shelnutt Jr. officiating.

According to Steve Curry, principal at Findley Oaks, Tyler "was a great kid, very enthusiastic, a positive spirit, a leader in his class and popular. We’re going to miss him; it's challenging for everyone. We’re moving forward with a hole in the fifth grade, pulling together and remembering him."

Curry said that Monday, the first day back from Spring Break, was challenging for Findley Oaks' students and staff, and that counselors are on hand for anyone needing assistance. 

Tyler played baseball at , football for the Johns Creek Youth Football Association and hoped to one day play for the University of Georgia.

Tyler is also survived by his brother, Brandon, and sister, Ella; grandparents, Mike and Donna Safarriyeh of Duluth, and Durward and Betsy Pennington of Gainesville; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tyler Safarriyeh Memorial Fund, Keyworth Bank, 11655 Medlock Bridge Rd., Johns Creek, GA. 30097.
