Johns Creek Students Place at Fulton Spelling Bee

The students will now move on to a district spelling bee at the end of the month.

Nearly 70 students in grades 4-8 represented their schools in several competitive rounds during the 2013 Fulton County Schools spelling bee held Feb. 2 at Ison Springs Elementary School.

Alina Baiju from Hopewell Middle School was crowned the winner after she edged out tough competitor Sean O’Neal from Findley Oaks Elementary School in Johns Creek. She had to correctly spell "belligerent" to win the title. Baiju now advances to the district spelling bee on Feb. 23 along with the other top contestants:

1st Place – Alina Baiju, Hopewell Middle School

2nd Place – Sean O’Neal, Findley Oaks Elementary School

3rd Place – Yumin Shivdasani, Wilson Creek Elementary School

4th Place – Emmanuelle LaMarche, Hillside Elementary School

5th Place – Ananya Ghose, Taylor Road Middle School

6th Place – Marianne LaMarche, Holcomb Bridge Middle School 

7th Place – Rylan Monahan, Elkins Pointe Middle School 

8th Place/Alternate – Sameer Khan, Crabapple Middle School 

The top two students at the district level will move on to the state bee on March 15. The Georgia Association of Educators sponsors the district and state competitions.
