The local sporting event for seniors begins at 9:30 a.m.

The month-long North Fulton Golden Games competition kicks off this morning, Wednesday, May 1, with opening ceremonies in Newtown Park.

Immediately following the 9:30 a.m. ceremony participants will engage in field games at the park.

The event, now in its 19th year, includes sports such as swimming, track and field and even rock-climbing. It also includes a middle range of athletics, such as bowling, washer toss, horseshoes, shuffleboard and basketball free throws. Other low-impact activities, such as billiards, bridge, poker and bocce ball, will also be played at different locations throughout North Fulton until the awards luncheon on May 23.
