Cops Say Girl Molested for More Than a Year; Woman Punched by APD Officer Files Suit

 - Smyrna-Vinings Patch

A Tucker man is accused of molesting a 5-year-old girl for more than a year, including once in Smyrna, according to a Cobb County criminal warrant.

Craig Alan Ellett was arrested just before 4 p.m. Friday on Interstate 20 and Flat Shoals Road on charges of aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation and cruelty to children in the first degree, according to online jail records. Woman Punched in the Face by APD Officer at IHOP Files Lawsuit - Buckhead Patch

In April 2011, a cell phone camera captured a woman swinging her fists towards a police officer in a Buckhead IHOP before being punched in the face and arrested by an Atlanta Police officer.

Torture Alleged in Death of 3-Year-Old - Fort Stewart Patch

Hinesville police allege that a Fort Stewart soldier charged with the murder of his 3-year-old daughter subjected the girl to hours of torturous punishment before her death, according to a WJCL report.

Spc. Torres L. Boles, a soldier assigned to the 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, is charged with murder and cruelty to children in connection with the Feb. 27 death of his daughter, 3-year-old Andraia Boles. See Fort Stewart Patch for more on this story.

 - Tucker Patch

A fire at a Tucker nursing home on Tuesday morning caused the death of an elderly resident and injured two others, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constituton.

The DeKalb Medical Examiner’s office has identified the woman killed as Laura Barrett, 64, who had apparently been smoking in bed while on oxygen.

Firefighters arrived on the scene around 3 a.m. for the two-alarm blaze at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home on Lawrenceville Highway, which houses 128 residents. See Tucker Patch for more on this story.

 - Cartersville Patch

The man who shot himself in the head during a high-speed chase has died, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Clark Millsap identified him as James Lamar Kemp, 46, whose last known address was in Marietta.

Following an alleged physical domestic dispute at a home near Adairsville early Saturday morning, Kemp led responding deputies on a pursuit that ended on Interstate 75 in Cartersville, police say. He had allegedly kicked in his ex-wife's door. See Cartersville Patch for more on this story.

Athens Man Dies in Two-Car Collision - Athens Patch

A 49-year-old Athens man was killed Monday when his car struck another car stopped at a red light along Tallassee Road, Athens-Clarke County Police said.

Mark Anthony Ellis of Winterberry Lane was driving a 1991 Honda Accord eastbound on Tallasee Road around 5 p.m.  At the intersection of Westchester Drive, the 2011 Nissan Cube driven by Killick Hinds, 40, of Three Oaks Drive was stopped at a red light when it was struck from behind by Ellis' vehicle, police said.
