Camp Listed on Patch Is Canceled

Heroes & Champions was supposed to start today at the University of Georgia.

Updated 11:20 a.m.

A major medical emergency involving the camp's executive director forced the cancellation, Heroes & Champions said in response to a request for more information.

"She is going to be okay, but due to the magnitude of the emergency, the camp had to be called off," the email said.

A sports camp that had recruited participants through local Patch events calendars since April canceled its operations Wednesday, a day before its scheduled start.

Heroes & Champions Camp was supposed to start today and run through Sunday at the University of Georgia. Campers ages 7 to 18 had the option to stay on campus or commute daily to participate in football, cheerleading or basketball. The charge for the camp was $325 to $375.

But the camp's website, which was down for a time, now has a cancellation message: "We regret to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances Heroes & Champions camp has been cancelled. Additional information will be distributed to parents and campers via the email address provided on the registration paperwork. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Please email all questions to info@handc.org."

WSB-TV had the first report we saw about the cancellation.

If you signed up for this camp and have more information about what happened and whether you'll get a refund, please post in the comment box or email michael.jacobs@patch.com to share with the community.
