Nominate a Leader

Nominations are being accepted for the 2012 class of Leadership Johns Creek.

Know someone who has the potential to be a great civic leader? Leadership Johns Creek is accepting nominations for its 2012 class. Thirty members will be chosen from a pool of candidates to take part in a learning experience that will hopefully groom them to become community leaders.

To be a member of the class means the nominee will take part in a weekend retreat and seven full-day workshops and complete a project during the year. The program brings participants in contact with civic, government and business leaders to give class members insight into how to affect change.

The upcoming class will be the program's third. The first class in 2010 helped create Newtown Park's community garden, a teaching pond at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve, historical markers along the Johns Creek greenway, and a video of Johns Creek's history.

"We really like somebody that already has been part of civic or non-profit organizations in the past — churches, Scouts, shelters — anything that shows heart and desire to add value to the community," said the non-profit's board president, Ron Jones, of potential candidates.

The idea for Leadership Johns Creek came from the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce in 2009 and the first class graduated in 2010. Sponsors of the program include the City of Johns Creek, Northside Hospital and Optech Monette.

Nominees must complete an application process and, after graduation, help plan the next year's curriculum.

Jones said the group is hoping to start a student leadership program next summer and has already met with school leaders. He said a young professional leadership group is also part of the the organization's plan.
