Edwin Watts Golf Store Closing Its Doors

The Johns Creek store, along with four others in the metro area, is closing. Only the Buckhead store will remain open.

After a decade of selling everything from sand wedges and rescue clubs to golf shoes and golf bags, the Edwin Watts Golf store on Medlock Bridge Road is closing up shop.

The company, which had been operating under bankruptcy protection, was purchased recently by California-based World Golf. The employees in the five stores in the Atlanta metro area considered it good news - until Dec. 5 when the new owners announced it was closing 42 of its 90 stores nationwide - and the Johns Creek store was one of the Georgia stores targeted for closure.

"I've been blessed to stay here as long as I have," said store manager Rick Coursey who began working at the Edwin Watts location shortly after the store opened in January, 2004.

Coursey said he'll miss the daily contact with his customers, the majority he says are regulars. "Ninety percent of our customers we know by name," he added.

While hearing of a store closing is never good news, the one bright spot - at least for shoppers - is there are some real bargains going on - and just in time for holiday shopping.

Currently the store has marked all merchandise down 15 - 40 percent. Name brand clubs including Wilson Staff, Mizuno and Adams Golf, are all being liquidated.

Clothing, shoes, accessories, art work, it's all on sale said Coursey. But, he cautions, "All sales are final, there are no returns and no exchanges."

Coursey said the store would remain open until all the merchandise had been liquidated, the exact date has not been announced. "We'll be here until everything is sold. We're selling fixtures and everything."

Edwin Watts Golf store is located at 1007 Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek, telephone: 770-622-5040.
