Baby Monitors Recalled Due to Strangling Risk

Two children have died after becoming entangled with the cord on an Angelcare monitor.

A Canadian baby monitor manufacturer has issued a voluntary recall of 600,000 monitors due to a risk of infants strangling themselves.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the cord that attaches to the sensor pad and is placed under the mattress can be dangerous of the child manages to pull the cord into the crib.

Two children have died after becoming entangled with the cord of the Angelcare Movement and Sound Monitors with Sensor Pad. The monitors were made between 1999 and 2013.

Model numbers involved with the recall are AC1100, AC201, AC300, AC401 AC601 and 49255 (without rigid covers). The model number can be found on the back of the monitor.

If you own this monitor, stop using it immediately and contact Angelcare to receive a free repair kit, which includes a rigid cord protector, a new warning label, and instructions.

The company can be reached Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern at (855)355-2643. Repair kits can also be ordered at Angelcare's website.
