The Fox Theatre and Hotel Indigo: A Great Night Out Combo!

I found a terrific "hidden gem" right across the street from the Fox Theatre!

Dinner downtown followed by a show at the Fox is probably my favorite night out. I'm very fortunate that I get to do it fairly often. There are two or three restaurants that I always choose for dinner, because they are close to the Fox and they have great food. That being said, they are also very crowded and noisy. You absolutely must have a reservation, the service is usually rushed because of the crowd and we usually just give up on any conversation until after dinner.

But recently, I discovered a delightful alternative. I had noticed the striking blue Nautilus shell logo of the Hotel Indigo many times as I walked to the parking garage directly across from the Fox, but I did not realize they had a restaurant until they invited me to be their guest for dinner. I really liked so many things about this hotel.

From the "piano" bar to the Broadway inspired wallpaper, the interior is all about the theatre. The wall behind the reception desk is papered in ticket stubs and the desk itself is made from drums. This quirky vibe is at once fun and relaxed. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They were not the least bit miffed when I asked for a few substitutions from the menu.

The menu also gives a huge nod to the theatre with cocktails such as Beauty & the Beast (tequila & raspberry liqueur), Wicked (rum, melon liquor and pineapple juice)  and the the Speak Easy (Bourbon, peach schnapps and mint). They offer a theatre menu with several appetizers including jalapeno peppers stuffed with bacon and roasted red pepper cream cheese, hummus and a farmers market salad along with several varieties of panini, flatbread and burgers.

I chose shrimp cakes with roasted red pepper sauce, mixed baby greens and white Vermont cheddar cheese coarse ground grits. My cousin, Leslie, chose grilled salmon with roasted fingerling potatoes, zucchini, asparagus and red peppers. We both agreed that our meals were fabulous!! Our only disappointment was that neither of us had room to try the hot chocolate cake they offered for dessert!

The restaurant was busy but not crowded, the service was quick but not rushed and the prices were very reasonable. They do not have a children's menu, but I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date night or girls night out, especially if you are going to the Fox because it's right across the street!

I would also definitely recommend that you see Jersey Boys before they leave town on June 10. I loved the music of the Four Seasons, but I did not know anything about the group. They came from blue collar backgrounds and they worked hard for every bit of success they achieved. They were young, they made mistakes, and they suffered a lot of heart aches, but you can't help cheering for them. The cast was amazing! They sang and danced almost non-stop for three hours. My only complaint was that we couldn't stand up and dance with them! It's a great show and everyone left with a huge grin on their faces. If you loved their music, you don't want to miss this show. But hurry, this is the last weekend to see it! Click HERE to purchase tickets.
