Norwegian Cruise Lines names two new ships
Norwegian and USA TODAY readers name new ships Breakaway and Getaway
Barbara Diener and Cruise Planners are spreading the word about new ships in the industry. Read the article below for the latest news from Norwegian Cruise Lines.
Need a break? How about a getaway? You're guaranteed both on Norwegian Cruise Line's new ships, which are to be named Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, it was announced today.
Both names were winners of Norwegian's "Cruising for Names" contest, held in conjunction with USA TODAY. Nearly a quarter million entries were submitted during the July 18 to Aug. 14 contest period.
Norwegian says the names best invoke the feeling that these ships will provide a "break" at sea from the stress of everyday life. "Breakaway," it notes, is defined as "a departure or break from routine or tradition" and "getaway" is "a place where one escapes for relaxation, vacation, etc."
"We felt Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway epitomized both our Freestyle Cruising philosophy and our belief that these ships will offer a true respite, whisking our guests away from their everyday routines and delivering the ultimate cruise vacation," said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian's chief executive officer.
Norwegian has begun unveiling details of the two Project Breakaway ships, which will have approximately 4,000 passenger berths apiece. The line plans to reveal more ship details in the coming months.
