The Food Snob is Missing!

The Food Snob is Missing! Read about Barbara's quest to get healthy and back to her food reviews.

I guess by now you've all noticed that I haven't written a review in two weeks. At least I hope you noticed.

I am on an exercise binge and watching everything I am eating. This does not mean, of course, that I have stopped reviewing the area's best restaurants, but that I am taking a moment to regroup.

My eating habits are really, really bad, told to me by everyone I know. I never eat breakfast, the biggest mistake since my mother always said it's the most important meal of the day. Here's a great quote from my mom, who passed away 10 years ago. I miss her every single day. Her best advice , which I have re-quoted to my kids many, many times was, " Drink Orange Juice. It sends Glugose to Your Brain". It's with these words that I am building better eating habits.

My mother had a few fabulous quotes so just for laughs I'll give you another one. Every morning, while other children were awakened with an alarm or a loving hand, "honey wake up, its time for school", my sister and brothers had this famous quote to wake up to. "Do you have any white wash-colored?". It is with this question that I have etched my mother's voice into my head and will never forget the love in which she used this phrase to wake us every day. Can you just hear her now? A book is definitely in the works of her quotes and phrases!

I have begun to eat my breakfast. It's a simple meal, kinda a European ( and you know how I love Europe) meal. I have a hard boiled egg, some fruit, whatever moves me that day and a slice of breakfast meat, if I feel like it. This is topped off with a cup of delicious coffee, made from my Tassimo with a shot of espresso (decaf, so as not to bloat) and Viola! Breakfast is served. I am really trying.

Lunch, since I am in the office by then, consists of a light salad (YUCK!) or a sandwich on light multi grain bread, I do not like whole wheat anything. I sometimes make salmon for dinner and save it to put in my salad the next day. I am not really hungry when luchtime rolls around, so I am forcing myself, as told to me by Cindee, to eat three meals a day. I drink as much water as I can, since it makes me gag, but I do it. Then for dinner I cook a fabulous meal consisting of a meat, or fish, a vegetable and a starch of some kind, mostly brown rice or sweet potato something. That encompasses all the food groups we have been taught about. I love to eat out, but I also love to cook. I went to cooking school at The New School in NYC many years ago and learned so much. A friend of mine and I used to clean the pots and pans so we could take the classes for free. It was an amazing time in my life and I learned so much about food. (I tell you this just in case anyone was wondering about my food snob credentials).

Every morning I pop (well let's say drag) myself out of bed and head to the basement to begin my hour long treadmill walk. Starting out slowly, I build to a nice pace and walk briskly for as long as I can. So far, an hour has been my limit. Perhaps because I do have to get to my desk and plan your vacations! I am amazed how much better I am feeling already.

So , if you will all send me your encouraging words, I will forge on and get back in the swing of reviewing our local eateries.

Feel free to quote your own mothers, though I doubt they are as eloquent as my mom's endearing phrases.
