The Food Snob Eats in Milton!

City of Milton has an amazing restaurant with a menu chock full of fresh ingredients grown in its own garden. It's a celebration of sustainability at its best.

Branching out and continuing to expand my territory for eating, I have discovered a wonderful restaurant in the city of Milton.

This week we celebrated our friend Jill's birthday. We ladies dine out regularly to celebrate each others birthdays. Not just another reason to drink and eat, but really to celebrate each other's ever growing, uhm, milestones! Jill had eaten here before and wanted to give it another try. Well, let me tell you, eight women ordered eight different entrees and everyone's dinner was fantastic. No complaints, and as we all know, food has been returned on several occasions in the past!

The waiter, Jonathan, was friendly with a very pleasant demeanor. He was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu, including making suggestions for Watermelon Margaritas with watermelon grown from the restaurant's own sustainable garden. Very delicious.

For dinner, I ordered the Shrimp and Grits served with red and yellow bell peppers, smoked bacon, red onions, mushrooms, scallions, tomatoes and lemon butter sauce. WOW! It was heaven and I don't usually like lemon butter anything. Some of the other entrees ordered were Southern Fried Chicken, Grilled Salmon over Fresh Spinach and Blackened Salmon, special request to have it served not blackened, but rather grilled. All these dishes were equally impressive and outstanding in taste and presentation. Yes, everyone shares and tastings all around the table are the norm!

The garden is open to patrons who want to see where their meals come from. The executive chef, Boyd Rose, who also greeted us after our meal, maintains the garden. He states, in another article, that it started out as an herb garden and expanded with the help of the community. Boyd is a polite Southern professional whose carrot cake dessert was probably the best carrot cake we ever had. All of us were in agreement about that!

He talked to us about his Southern roots and thanked us several times for complimenting the food presentation and his craft in the kitchen. The ambiance and the cordiality of the staff made the evening ever so much more pleasant.

The dining experience in this historic old farm house, once owned by the Broadwell family, is homey and familiar. Manager Patrick Gangi, another very polite and pleasant host, welcomed us to the restaurant and checked in on us several times. All around, the dining experience was enhanced by the staff of this divine establishment.

I would describe Milton's as a charming dining experience with the warmth of its southern cuisine and a hint of city elegance.
