Johns Creek Teen Chasing Her Dreams

Nicole Krinsky to perform at Eddie's Attic on Tuesday.

Like any other 17-year-old, Nicole Krinsky was attending Johns Creek High School last year and living life like a normal teenager.

But that all changed when she won a DaveFM radio contest for a chance to sing the National Anthem at an Atlanta Falcons game before an audience of 70,000. To say things snowballed from there would be an understatement.

Her a cappella performance earned her invitations to perform the anthem again at the Australian Open Wild Card Playoff in Norcross and the ATP Delray Beach ITC, singing in front of tennis stars like Billie Jean King and John McEnroe.

"It was kind of like a domino effect," Nicole said. On March 28 she'll perform the anthem at the Sony Ericcson International in Key Biscayne, Fla., and again on Aug. 22 at the WTA Tour Texas Open.

But, the National Anthem isn't the only song on Nicole's playlist. She's been writing and performing original songs since she was 8 and decided to sing a Britney Spears song at a camp talent show.

Nicole says she has two writing and performing styles: pop and acoustic. "My acoustic music is emotional; my pop music is a lot more fun. It's great to do a different variety – acoustic can connect on an emotional level, while pop has a more social aspect."

Nicole will perform some of her acoustic pieces Tuesday night at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, opening for Trey Rosenkampff.

And how does a teenager juggle a blossoming singing career with school? Nicole started taking online Kaplan Preparatory classes that she could work around her schedule, and, in fact, will likely graduate a year early.

"If you could realize your dreams, why not?" said her mom, Joyce. "To be able to focus on your dream — I think it’s awesome."
