8th-Annual Barefoot In The Park Fine Arts Festival In Historic Duluth

Barefoot in the Park Fine Arts Market will celebrate its 8th year of bringing arts, food, and fun for all ages to the Duluth Town Green on May 4-6, 2012.

This popular regional arts market welcomed a record number 15,000 attendees last year. This year, there will be even more to see and experience.

Approximately 60 tents containing fine artwork from across the Southeast and beyond will vie for visitors’ attention with a continuous schedule of musicians and dancers in two performing arts venues.

A Children’s Arts Park with indoor and outdoor activities, a Book Bistro hosted by Books-A-Million, an Adult Learning Village hosted by the Hudgens Center for the Arts, Wine Tastings, and an Exhibition of artwork from Gwinnett schools offer arts-related fun and learning for the entire family. Admission to Barefoot is free.

The Barefoot Gala is returning after a two year hiatus to kick off the weekend. Held on Friday, May 4th beginning at 7:00 p.m., this year’s Gala will be titled “Carnevale,” featuring decorations and entertainment from the joyous Caribbean festival tradition. During the Gala, there will be special events, one being “Pulp Fashion II.”

This event will showcase glamorous outfits made from repurposed books and magazines created by the Gwinnett Public Library’s branches, employees, and volunteers.
Also during the Gala will be a special appearance by Atlanta’s “Dance Truck,” a cutting edge performance group which “brings dance to the people” literally, by way of a flatbed truck. Original choreography is being performed for the occasion, and one is titled “The Barefoot Dance,” which will have party-goers on their feet.

The weekend will be filled with many opportunities for visitors to participate in creating art as well as watching and admiring from a distance.

Children and adults will have fun creating art from a slate of potential projects throughout the weekend. Authors will make special appearances. Performers will include colorful ethnic music and dance from India and China as well as big band music, barbershop choruses, and young musicians rocking out.

Duluth Town Green park is located at 3142 Hill Street in Duluth, GA. Parking is free and available off Hill Street just west of the park.
