War Hero Coming to Johns Creek on Saturday

Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, Medal of Honor recipient, will visit Newtown Park.

A war hero will visit with Johns Creek residents on Saturday when Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston comes to Park Place at .

A Medal of Honor recipient, author of "Noble Warrior," and Towns, Ga., native, Livingston told Patch he plans to advise the younger folks in the audience to "take the mantle of leadership."

The Vietnam veteran received the Medal of Honor from President Nixon in 1970 for leading his fellow Marines against enemy forces in a three-day battle at Dai Do even though he was critically injured three times and could barely walk at one point.

"I think there's a lot of good will going on, and I'm very appreciative of that."

He added that public support is due in fact to the work of Vietnam vets who didn't want today's soldiers to face animosity from the public the way they did.

“We’ve wanted to get Gen. Livingston to Park Place ever since we opened last year,” said Johns Creek City Manager John Kachmar in a press release.  “He’s a true American hero and a wonderful speaker who inspires people of all ages wherever he speaks around the country.”

The public is invited to the free event at Park Place at Newtown Park, 3125 Old Alabama Road at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12. Livingston will sign his book after the event, and the first 65 Johns Creek veterans who RSVP to 678-512-3296 will receive a free copy of “Noble Warrior.”
