Tee It Up March 24 for 1st Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk Golf Tournament

Here's a chance to play your favorite game - and honor your countrymen who have served our country.

The Johns Creek Veterans Association is looking for recruits – in this case, pro-veteran sponsors and players for its March 24 golf tournament for the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk.

“This is an opportunity for golfers to play their favorite game and honor their countrymen who served by helping us raise money for the Memorial Walk,” said Wayne Kidd, JCVA president.

“The Memorial Walk will be a contemplative place for visitors to reflect on the sacrifices of America’s military personnel and their families, and it will serve as a focal point for patriotic activities for City of Johns Creek.”

The 1st Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk Golf Tournament, which is being held at the Standard Club, offers a number of options for sponsors from a $10,000 title sponsorship to a $500 sponsorship. All proceeds benefit the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk being built at Newtown Park.

Teams play in foursomes, and the field is limited to first 25 teams that register. The tournament will use a shamble format in which all players tee off and the best drive is chosen as the starting point for the entire team. The team score is the best ball of the team. Mulligan tickets are available.

The tournament also offers fun competition, such as contests for putting, and longest drive, as well as four hole-in-ones, three for automobiles as prizes.

Entry is $700 a team or $175 per player, which includes golf fees, a box lunch on carts, two drink tickets per player, dinner, a Standard Club shirt, and prizes. Players can sign up individually.

The Veterans Memorial Walk will be a meditative and interactive tribute to area veterans, their families and supporters. It will feature an entrance plaza with flags of all military branches, a gazebo, benches and memorials for each major conflict dating from World War I. A ground-breaking ceremony for the project was held Nov. 9, 2013, with an expected completion date of Nov. 11, Veterans Day, 2014.
