Summer Camp Registration Open at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve

Camp themes include nature, heritage and drama.

Summer is Autrey Mill Nature Preserve's most popular season as summer camps fill the campus with bustling activity and energetic kids. To plan accordingly, AMNP is now opening up registrations for its diverse camps. Themes for 2011 will center around nature, heritage and drama, with nature being the best seller.

“Since introducing our 'Wonderful Water Camp,' it has been so popular that we are offering it for four weeks in 2011,” said Director Ben Team.

The first week of camp, "Mr. Ben's Adventure Camp" will take place June 6-10 and offer children ages 6-10 a week of critters, creek time and creative activities. Subsequent weeks will feature creepy crawlies, drama, heritage, reptiles and water. The final eighth week will end where it all began: another "Mr. Ben's Adventure Camp."

New this year is a drama camp hosted by Shakespeare Studio. Young actors will be given parts to perform in an original play. The historic buildings and heritage center at Autrey Mill will also play a part in the "Heritage Girl Camps." Campers will experience activities pulled from America's past, including games, cooking and crafts. Optionally campers are welcome to bring a historic character doll to join them in camp activities.

All nature and drama camps will begin at 9 a.m. and be held Monday-Friday. Heritage camps will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will also be a three-day mini camp offered for preschoolers in late August. Prices range from $100-$205. Discounts are available for members at the family level and above.
