Perfect Lab Mix Looking for a Home

Em is available for adoption from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.

Meet Em, a Lab/mix female who's affectionately known as a "beautiful Georgia brown dog." She is 6 to 7 years old and weighs a "perfect" 50 pounds.

Em is also spayed, microchipped, totally house-trained and crate-trained. Em's fosters only put her in her crate if they are going to be gone more than a few hours, as she is fine being loose in the home most of the time.

She does seem to have a desire to help her human keep the house clean, so if you leave socks and old papers laying about, she will at times help you clean up by picking them up and taking them to her crate to chew on. Her foster mom says Em has never chewed on anything of substance.

Em is also up-to-date on all her shots and preventatives with perfect vet records, and is a stellar graduate of the PetSmart Training classes, graduating top of her class. Em was adopted as a puppy by a retired couple in the south part of Georgia, and lived happily with them for years, playing and enjoying not only their home but a nice yard for that time.

She also traveled with them, and remains an excellent road-trip companion.  After the couple sadly passed away, Em's entire world suddenly changed.  Their son wanted to keep Em in the family; however, he and his family had previously adopted a dog who was known to be "dog-aggressive" a few years before Em's family passed away so she could no longer remain with their family.

The son continues to financially support Em's needs through Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. They cared very much for Em and wanted her to have again the kind of life she had with her former owners, and knew she would have that chance through Angels Rescue.

Em is fine with most dogs, but she is not a huge fan of smaller toy breeds.  She loves to play rough so a larger canine companion would work best for her. She can be dominant at first but quickly settles down once put in her place. She is very respectful of other dogs, and would be best with older kids.

She currently has a 9-year-old in her foster home that she loves dearly and enjoys playing with, but Em would not be suitable around small children or toddlers as she can get a bit aggressive when she's playing with her toys - "in the zone," as her foster likes to call it - and smaller children might not understand her play tactics.

Em is also completely fine with cats and ignores them. Her favorite thing to do is taking naps in the sun or on her couch. She also loves chasing water out of the hose or sprinkler, and will run and jump for hours doing it if you allow her to.

Em also adores long walks and hikes and playing in the water along the shore of Lake Lanier when she's out hiking with her foster family - she's excellent in scouting out fish close to the shore. And if riding in the car or taking lots of road trips, then Em is your girl, as she is always up for a car ride.

Em's ideal home would be one with a laid-back environment where she could enjoy her naps for most of the day. She would do best with a fenced-in yard with a secure gate so she could run and play and still be safe.  Em is a very independent girl, low maintenance, protective of her family if strangers come to the door. She will bark but once commanded will settle down once you let her know they are "approved" by you.

She will come to you when she wants affection but is not overly anxious or pushy for affection or approval. She is just a very cool girl who grew up in a quiet home as an only dog with very few rules or training.

She is eager to please her person, listens well, knows basic commands and is a very loyal and loving companion.

A loving, retired couple would be ideal owners for precious Em. If you are interested in meeting Em, or learning more about her, you can contact her foster mom, Morgan, by email atmortpalmer@gmail.com or Angels Among Us at inquiry@angelsrescue.org
