The Johns Creek Veterans Association is inviting families to come out and enjoy food and fellowship at its Memorial Day Picnic.
The picnic will kick off at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 18 at the entrance plaza of the Veterans Memorial Walk at Newtown Park.
The picnic, which is free and open to the public, features traditional American fare – grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, chips and other delectables.
Visitors can talk with veterans, and order pavers engraved with the name, rank, branch of service, and conflict or years served for anyone who served in the military.
July 4 is the deadline for ordering pavers to be installed by the official opening of the Memorial Walk on Veterans Day weekend in November.
The association is a non-profit organization that encourages patriotism in Johns Creek and provides social activities tailored to veterans.
Its major projects are recording oral histories, and construction of the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk, a contemplative tribute to military men and women located next to Park Place, 3125 Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek.
