Johns Creek To Launch LEGO Camp at Newtown Park

Registration for a new five-day LEGO Camp will end on Friday, July 18.

Stoke the imagination of your budding engineers by giving them a massive pile of LEGOs to use during a new five-day LEGO Camp starting July 28 at the Newtown Park Community Clubhouse in Johns Creek.

Under the direction of Play-Well TEKnologies staff, the half-day camp targets youngsters 5-12 years old. The camps are designed to spark creativity and the exploration of basic engineering principles.

At the beginning of each class, kids are given a scenario and a mission, such as building a planetary vehicle that can withstand meteor showers. Instructors will demonstrate a way to accomplish the mission. 

Then, armed with 20,000 LEGOs and other devices, such as battery packs, electric motors, and belt-and-pulley transmissions, the kids are encouraged will construct their own version. The instructors may throw in challenges to make the task more fun.

A "Pre-Engineering Using LEGO" camp for youngsters 5-7 years old run from 9 a.m. to noon while the "Engineering FUNdamentals Using LEGO" camp for kids 8-12 years old is set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Camp size is 11 to 24 youngsters. Fees are $150 for Johns Creek residents, and $225 for non-residents.

Registration, which started Monday, June 30, runs through Friday, July 18.
