Johns Creek Resident Organizes Belly Dance Flash Mob

The group will perform at the Buckhead Spring Arts & Crafts Festival at Chastain Park on May 11.

Johns Creek resident Lacy Perry will join belly dancers all around the world to make history for a great cause.

"Shimmy Mobs" will appear at various locations - including Atlanta - to raise awareness and funds for domestic abuse victims’ shelters and promote World Belly Dance Day, this Saturday, May 11. Perry will lead the Atlanta Shimmy Mob's third annual performance during the Buckhead Spring Arts & Crafts Festival at Chastain Park at 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.

Shimmy Mob dancers from North Fulton will come together with those from other areas of metro Atlanta to treat festival attendees to an exciting, high energy group performance, according to a recent annoucement.

In an e-mail to Ptach, Perry said the event's goal is two-fold: to raise money for local battered women's shelters, as well as spread awareness of Middle Eastern dance.

Most commonly, a flash mob is a group of people organized to meet in one location to perform a specified action and then disperse. Shimmy Mob is different because of its multinational scope and its philanthropic goals, according to the press release. Last year’s international Shimmy Mob broke the record for the largest event of its kind covering a huge geographical territory in one day.
