UPDATE: Feb. 11 9:15 p.m.:

The Johns Creek Emergency Operations Center opened at 8:30 p.m. and City Public Works crews began to pre-treat bridges and major roads.

Northern Fulton County, including Johns Creek, remains under a Winter Storm Warning. National Weather Service forecasters are calling this a potentially "catastrophic event," with the potential for ice accumulations of 1 inch and possible extensive power outages and treacherous roads. Gov. Nathan Deal encouraged Georgians in the path of Winter Storm Pax to stay off the roads to limit traffic and to make way for crews treating the roads.

Weather forecasters predict snow and sleet will start falling overnight as temperatures settle below freezing through Thursday morning. Another 3 inches of snow and ice could accumulate on Wednesday.

Eight Johns Creek Public Works crews are beginning to spread a salt-and-sand mix on bridges and major roads in the City in anticipation of sleet and snow. The City has 700 tons of the mixture on hand with more available. Crews will work in 12-hour shifts until the storm subsides.

The operations center, which will be manned continuously by Police, Fire, Public Works, Administration and Communications staff, will serve as the nerve center for coordinating the City’s response to Winter Storm Pax.
