Johns Creek Foundation Gives Grants to Northview, JC Arts Center

The Johns Creek Foundation Board of Directors recently presented grant awards to both the Johns Creek Arts Center and the Northview High School PTSA.

The Johns Creek Arts Center, a 501c3 community arts organization, was founded with the purpose of bringing arts to a culturally lacking area of north Fulton County and since 1996 the center has provided a wide selection of art and theatre classes, camps, workshops, and outreach programs. The JCF grant will be used to help expand the center’s outreach efforts to include a greater number of children from underserved populations by subsidizing the shadow program and funding scholarships for the Summer Art Camp.

Northview High School, specifically the Language Arts Department, integrated iPad technology into their classrooms through an award to last year’s Teacher of the Year, Ashley Ulrich. Over the last year, Ulrich recognized the positive impact new technology had on her teaching and the students’ learning. However, additional iPads would allow the students to work in smaller group or in pairs, which is where this year's grant will be used.  Eight new iPads will be purchased for the Language Arts Department and are to be utilized by all teachers, maximizing their value through use by all Northview students.

In its first six years the Foundation has poured over $100,000 into the community through programs as varied as the summer arts camp at Johns Creek Arts Center to the Ceremony of HOPE at the Johns Creek Relay for Life. Visit the foundation's beneficiaries webpage for more information.
