Johns Creek residents will soon be able to directly purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables and homemade foods at Newtown Park.
The Johns Creek Farmers Market will return for the summer starting May 31 at Newtown Park. The park sits at 3150 Old Alabama Road.
The market will run each Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through Sept. 6. The market "promises more than 25 vendors," according to a press release from the city.
"It’s an excellent way to have access to locally grown, fresh, produce,” said Recreation Manager Kirk Franz. “Many of our vendors sell produce that is certified organic, certified naturally grown, or sustainably grown. It’s exciting to be able to buy vegetables from a farmer who just made the trip from his farm.”
In addition to fresh produce, the farmers market will feature a variety of craft foods, such as all-natural cheeses, honey, homemade jams and jellies, fresh breads, pastries and pastas. On the first and third Saturdays, chefs will demonstrate cooking techniques for adults as well as cooking classes for kids.
To round out the shopping experience, musicians perform tunes, and special treats and entertainment make the trip fun for kids.
