Johns Creek Citizens Fire Academy Starts March 12

Application deadline extended until March 4.

Johns Creek residents can get a detailed look at how their fire department operates when the Johns Creek Citizens Fire Academy returns March 12.

During the eight-week course (nine class days), participants will learn about JCFD’s operations, fire tactics and strategies and aspects of fire prevention. Class members will participate in practical drills, both firefighting and emergency medical exercises.

The academy meets March 12, 23, 26 and April 2, 6, 9, 16, 27 and 30, and includes classroom instruction (equipment, fire prevention); demonstrations (CPR, First Aid); and practical exercises (fire training, emergency medical exercises). Class times are Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Class dates and times are subject to change.)

“We’re very excited to continue the Citizens Fire Academy program,” said Deputy Fire Chief Pat Wilson. “The first class was a great success and by resuming the program, more Johns Creek residents can learn about fire safety – and they’ll have fun while doing so.”

The Citizens Fire Academy is open to Johns Creek residents and those who work in Johns Creek age 18 and older who successfully pass the application process and a criminal history check.  The Citizen Fire Academy is limited to 20 people.

Download the application here or get one at JCFD Headquarters, 10205 Medlock Bridge Parkway, Johns Creek. Applications must be submitted by Monday, March 4. If accepted, there is a $25 program fee.
