It's National Pet Day! Share Photos of Your Pet

Don't forget to tell us your pet's name and why you love it.

It's National Pet Day! A day devoted to people's love for their furry friends. In honor of today, Patch is inviting you to share photos of these special little souls.

To get started meet Rosie, an 8-year-old Australian shepherd who shares a home with Johns Creek Patch editor Ann Marie Quill, who says she loves her dog because she makes her laugh daily.

Also meet Frankie, my 19-year-old chocolate point Siamese, and a few more of her friends who live with several Patch editors nearby.

Frankie is named after ol' blue eyes, Frank Sinatra, because of HER blue eyes. I love her because she's been the best companion all these years and is the sweetest cat ever.

Upload a picture of your pet to our photo gallery, and tell us a little something about your furry friend (or not-so-furry if it's a goldfish, we're not discriminating). Read what these Patch editors have to say about their companions.

Callie and Marley are always affectionate and willing to snuggle with anyone!  - Justin Ove, Editor of Canton-Sixes Patch

This is Dixie (see picture), a Boxer-Pit Bull mix (we think). I love her because she loves me unconditionally and can always help me feel better after a stressful day.  - Kristal Dixon, Editor of Woodstock-TowneLake Patch

Bart was one of those rescue dogs who "was going to be put down when the weekend's over," according to the Humane Society Volunteer. Taking care of him keeps me a little bit more connected with real life after spending a day on the computer. Even when I've stayed away for far too long during the day, he's always glad to see me come back home.  - Bob Pepalis, Associate Regional Editor and Editor of Alpharetta-Milton Patch

To upload a photo of your pet, just click on the "Upload photos and videos" button on the top left of the screen under the headline. After you've uploaded your photo, leave us a comment and tell us how your pet got its name and why you love your pet.

National Pet Day was founded by Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert & Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige, and is sponsored by the Animal Miracle Foundation & Network.

The day was created to celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives and to create public awareness about the plight of many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters all across the nation. According to Pet Day USA, it's estimated that approximately 16,000 pets die in U.S. shelters every single day.
