Great Ways to Celebrate Spring

Know of more great activities for kids? Tell us in the comments.

The chill of winter is disappearing and hints of spring are sprouting. As kids begin to venture outside, they are discovering their back yards are turning green and crawling with interesting critters. This upcoming week is full of opportunities to celebrate and learn about spring with stories, jogs, hikes and animals. If you don't have spring fever quite yet, there are other great options, too!

Get a start on Spring and encourage kids to discover the plants and wildlife we share here at home. Saturday morning, enjoy an hour-long hike at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and explore some of the preserve’s 46 acres of forest, streams and wetlands.

Kids like to eat! Here is an opportunity for them to learn how (and what!) other animals eat. On Friday at 4 p.m., come watch Autrey Mills animals at chow time. The critters are hungry so the program starts on time and goes fast. Don't be late or you will miss the big gulp!

Ever Build a Mountain From Yogurt?

This Friday, KidVentures is heading to Yogurt Mountain in Johns Creek. Kids will learn the healthier benefits of choosing yogurt as a dessert. Then kids get to make their own yogurt mountain which will include yogurt choice as well as toppings!

We all learned to clean our room as a kid, now let’s learn to clean Roswell’s green spaces. This Saturday, kids are encouraged to participate with the Big Creek Wetlands Beautification Day. This was a fun-filled event for kids last year, but who can’t have fun in all that dirt and mud? Kids' presence is a must!

Attend a unique learning experience focused on the Chattahoochee River. Each Sunday, kids are welcome to the  at 4 p.m. to view a 30-minute live animal presentation with one of the center's naturalists or docents.

By using books, finger-plays and crafts, kids have fun learning about the insects all around them. Join the Chattahoochee Nature Center's volunteers March 2 at 10 a.m. as they use different mediums to share stores about the wonderful creepy crawly insects all around us.

This Saturday at West Forsyth High School, kids can help out another kid that was in a tragic accident Christmas Eve. Jacobs Journey is hosting a 5K (walk or run) to raise money and help this 3-year-old boy overcome an incredible difficult journey to return to health.

The Women's Center at Northside Hospital Forsyth in Cumming  offers A Baby and Me class this Saturday for first-time siblings. The interactive hour is for big brothers or sisters ages 3-6 and teaches what it's like to have a new baby in the home, what babies eat, how they communicate and more. Online registration is required.

In Georgia, we are fortunate to experience all four seasons. This Saturday morning, kids can learn more about the changing of the seasons as Barnes & Noble at Mansell Crossing Shopping Center hosts Spring Fever Storytime.

Only one thing is as fun as hearing the Dr. Seuss classic, Cat In the Hat, and that is watching kids hear/read it for the very first time. Join  at Avenue Forsyth on Saturday at 11 a.m. to hear this wonderful story. It’s a great way to teach kids the joy of reading. Great for kids 5 years and under.

Even though we are in the South, ice skating is a big event whether it's the Atlanta Thrashers or Disney on Ice. Now kids can learn to ice skate, too! The Cooler Skating Academy's upcoming "Learn To Ice Skate" class starts Monday, March 7. This is a fun way to learn a new unique skill and exercise, too.  Beginners and kids are encouraged to join!
