Farmers Market, Movies in the Park This Weekend

This weekend's activities include Johns Creek's first farmers' market, a movie in the park, and kittens, kittens, kittens.

Why Go? Satisfy your appetite for locally grown fruits and vegetables starting this weekend when the Johns Creek Farmers Market opens at Newtown Park and will continue every Saturday until Sept. 10.

Why Go? Pack a picnic and bring a blanket for the second movie of the series at Newtown Park. "Movies in the Park" is a summer outdoor series of family-friendly movies presented on a huge inflatable screen. Pre-show activities start at 7 p.m. about two hours prior to movie showing at dusk. Activities include an inflatable moonwalk and giant slide, face painting, children's activities, giveaways, entertainment, food and drinks, along with displays from local businesses and organizations.

Kitten Adoption Extravaganza

Where/When: Petco, 10980 State Bridge Road, Johns Creek, 30022; Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go? Have room in your home for a pet in need of a forever family? Kitten season is here, and Angels Among Us Pet Rescue has plenty to choose from. Kittens available for adoption will be on display in the rescue group's adoption center in the Johns Creek Petco.

Price: Free admission; adoption fees apply

Why Go? From churches to Victorian houses, get to know the heritage of Johns Creek buildings.

Why Go? A group of young Scottish Fiddlers from Ayrshire, Scotland, are on their U.S. tour.

Why Go?: When a fisherman catches a large green fish in his net, he begins a crazy journey that involves a magic fish, three wishes and a wife who keeps wanting more. Will they live happily ever after? Find out in this whale of a tale.

Where/When: The Polo Fields, 6050 Majors Road, Cumming, 30040; Saturday, July 9, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go? Want to learn more about the sport that is the foundation of American football? Enjoy the best rugby in the Atlanta area when two of the nation’s top amateur teams (women and men) host a 7’s tournament. The Atlanta Harlequins WRFC and Atlanta Old White RFC are proud to be hosting another Hotlanta 7s tournament. Several high school rugby clubs will also be showing their skills.
