Fired Up for Heart Health: A Gwinnett Medical Center Cook Off with Firefighters

Please join Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) as they host Fired Up for Heart Health on Saturday, June 23,  from 10 a.m. to noon. According to a recent study, firefighters have a 300 percent increased risk of developing heart disease as compared to the general population. To help extinguish this startling statistic, GMC’s Strickland Heart Center is sponsoring a heart healthy cooking contest for local fire and emergency services personnel.

The contest will promote heart health through nutritious, satisfying meals prepared by local firefighters. Contest recipes will be available to the public.

While the teams cook, attendees can learn about tips for healthy cooking, receive a complimentary blood pressure check and enter into drawings for great door prizes. We even have a healthy eating coloring booth for children. It's never too early to learn heart healthy eating habits! Or take a tour of a fire truck and learn more about what it takes to be a firefighter.
