Community Safety Day, Festivals on Tap This Weekend

The Johns Creek Fire Department will host Community Safety Day on Saturday.

Where/When: 10265 Medlock Bridge Parkway, Johns Creek, Saturday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m.

Why Go? Join “Community Safety Day,” a precursor to Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9-15), and heighten your awareness about basic safety issues. Firefighters Burn Foundation will answer questions about ways to handle various emergencies and they will provide car-seat safety checks and conduct blood pressure checks upon request. Informational handouts and safety checklists will be available and the event features children’s activities, such as a Dalmatian-themed bounce house. Firefighters also will perform a variety of rope rescue demonstrations to show some of the many skills they use regularly.

Ultimate Girls Night Out

Why Go? The 6th Annual Scarecrow Harvest is a time when the community comes alive with whimsical scarecrows. Accredited K-5 schools create approximately 100 scarecrows each year. At noon, scarecrow awards and prizes will be given..

Where/When: Historic Downtown Alpharetta Milton Avenue & N. Main St., Alpharetta, Saturday, Oct. 1, 6:30-11 p.m.

Why Go? The Downtown Alpharetta Trade Association presents the first annual Alpharetta Brew Moon Fest street dance, brew and shenanigans. There will be great food, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages for sale, a performance by the Old School Horn Band from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the headline band Banks and Shane from 9 to 11 p.m.

Why Go? The 61st annual Frances McGahee Youth Day Parade is sponsored by the City of Roswell to honor and support the youth of Roswell. This year’s theme is “The Rec Makes Life Fun!” Parade line-up begins at Roswell First Baptist Church with parade ending at Roswell Area Park. An outdoor festival will be held at Roswell Area Park following the parade.

Why Go? Smith Plantation will hold its eighth annual Fall Farm Day activities and will include children’s period games, a petting zoo and wagon rides. The Roswell Garden Club will provide games, crafts and concessions.

Why Go? This annual 5K road race for runners and walkers begins at 9:45 a.m. on Mimosa Boulevard prior to the Youth Day Parade. The race course will go through Roswell’s historic district with participants finishing in the Roswell Area Park.

Why Go? Help celebrate 21 years of running. Kids' Chance invites you to come out and help children of injured workers. Whether you are a runner, walker or a parent with a stroller, the entire family is encouraged to support a great cause. The mission of Kids' Chance of Georgia is to provide educational scholarships to the children of Georgia workers who have been seriously, catastrophically or fatally injured in work-related accidents.
