5K at Newtown Park Will Honor Late Son of Roswell Family

Sam Robb 5K and Fun Run to benefit CURE Childhood Cancer.

CURE Childhood Cancer announces the 5th annual Sam Robb Memorial 5K and Fun Run, which will be held in Newtown Park in Johns Creek on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 8 a.m.

The race honors Sam Robb, the son of Sam and Annamarie Robb of Roswell, an athlete who lost his battle with osteosarcoma at the age of 20 in 2007. Event proceeds benefit The Sam Robb Fund of CURE Childhood Cancer.

The first Sam Robb Memorial 5K Run/Walk was held in November 2008 and organized by Andrew George, Sam’s friend, fellow Centennial High School graduate and the son of pediatric oncologist Brad George, who treated Sam throughout his illness.

“I remember Sam’s perseverance and his quiet strength as he went through treatment,” Andrew George said. “I organized this race not only to honor Sam’s legacy and my dad’s extraordinary efforts to treat him, but to help others battling this terrible disease.”

Each year, more than 200 runners participate in the race, which has raised more than $25,000 for the Sam Robb Fund at CURE Childhood Cancer. The fund supports the Sam Robb Fellow at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine as well as Open Arms, a meal delivery program

“This race really honors Sam’s athleticism and generous spirit. We can’t bring him back, but we can honor his legacy by coming together to raise funds to support our ultimate goal—a cure for childhood cancer,” said Sam’s mother, Annamarie Robb.

Registration is for the Fun Run is $5. 5K registration is $30.

Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. Awards will be given for Male and Female Overall and Masters as well as the top three finishers in each age group.
