Pisgah Football Dominates All-Region Teams

The Mount Pisgah varsity football team dominated the All-Region 6B-A awards which were announced on Thursday. In addition to the Player of the Year, Lineman of the Year and Coach of the Year, 12 Patriots were named to either the first or second All-Region teams.

 

Earning Region Player of the Year honors was quarterback Aaron Winchester. The junior passed for 2272 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also led all Class A quarterback’s with 1,100 yards rushing. Winchester is the first ever Region Player of the Year for the football program.

Defensive lineman Shingi Chigwere was named the Region Lineman of the Year. Despite missing five games with a knee injury, Chigwere finished the season with 61 tackles, 5½ sacks and ten tackles for a loss.

First year Head Coach Mike Forester was named the Region Coach of the Year after guiding the Patriots to a 12-1 record and a spot in the GHSA semifinals. Pisgah won its first ever Region championship and finished the regular season a perfect 10-0. He is also the first Pisgah football coach to be named the Region Coach of the Year.

 

First team selections on offense include senior wide receiver Browning Dunn (1425 all-purpose yards, 13 touchdowns), junior wide out Oz Dixon (871 all-purpose yards, 13 TDs) and senior tight end Tommy Pease (320 receiving yards, 5 TDs).

 

Defensive players on the first team are junior defensive lineman Blake Smith (76 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss), sophomore linebacker JR Cendoya (77 tackles, 1 interception), junior linebacker Nicky Piccapietra (103 tackles, three interceptions), senior defensive back Ian Ainsworth (57 tackles, two interceptions) and senior safety Jacob Delk (79 tackles, six interceptions).

 

Senior offensive lineman Jimmy Campbell and Justin Cowart were named to the second team offense. Joining them was junior wide receiver Ben Miller (566 yards receiving, nine touchdowns).

 

On defense, junior linebacker John O’Connor (85 tackles) and senior defensive back Patrick Messinger (55 tackles, two interceptions) were second team selections.

 

Finally, Delk was also named to the second team as a punter. He averaged 35 yards per punt with nine kicks downed inside the 20 yard line.
