Mount Pisgah Middle School Basketball Wins MLK Classic

The Mount Pisgah Middle School boys’ basketball team captured the MLK Classic tournament on Monday with a 47-36 win over Milton. The Patriots also defeated Pebblebrook 55-45 in the semifinals on Monday.

Against Milton, the Patriots jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Kyle Sturdivant led the way with 18 points. Brandon Pope scored ten points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Quinn Richey finished with nine points.

In the semifinals against Pebblebrook, Pisgah trailed by four at halftime, but rallied in the second half for the big win. Sturdivant and Richey each scored 15 points in the win. Pope finished with another double-double with 14 points and a monster 23 rebounds.

The tournament began on Saturday with wins over North Paulding (52-24) and the Georgia Thunder (82-40). On Sunday the Patriots pulled off a 73-68 double overtime win over the Kennesaw Lakers. Pope scored a game high 27 points and added 12 rebounds. Sturdivant finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Richey and Brandon Younger each added ten points.

The Patriots (18-1 overall and 10-0 in North Atlanta Metro League play) wrap up their NAML regular season at home on Wednesday at 5:15 pm against Kings Ridge.
