LLS Volunteer Awarded Teen Volunteer of the Year by National Philanthropy Day

National Philanthropy Day® (NPD),first celebrated in 1986, is the day the charitable sector uses to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments that philanthropy—and those involved in the philanthropic process—have made to communities around the world.

In Atlanta, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Atlanta Chapter hosted National Philanthropy Day on Tuesday, November 5th at The Georgia Aquarium.  The National Philanthropy Day Luncheon honored individuals, organizations, foundations, corporations, youth and young professionals for their philanthropic contributions to the greater Atlanta community.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Georgia Chapter would like to congratulate Erin Lindsey Harman for being one of three teens chosen to receive “Teen Volunteer of the Year” Awards.  Erin was chosen because of her involvement with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Light The Night Walk.  Erin is sixteen years old and attends Johns Creek High School where, in addition to volunteering for LLS, she is yearbook editor, captain of the lacrosse team, on the academic honor roll and member of National Beta Club, National Society of High School Scholars, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and JCHS Class Council.

Erin began volunteering with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk after a family member was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010.  Erin formed a fundraising team for Light The Night and named it “Team Impact.”  In the past three years, Erin and her team members have raised over $3,300 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Erin says that through her involvement with Light The Night, she has learned that, “doing something for yourself can make you happy for the time being, but serving others is something you can take with you for the rest of your life.”  To make a donation to Erin’s fundraising effort for Light The Night, visit: http://pages.lightthenight.org/ga/Athens13/Erinlindsey.
