Hooch's Morrow Scores 1000th Point for Cougars

With the holidays fast approaching, two Chattahoochee senior girls received early Christmas presents Friday, Dec. 20, when the Cougars faced off against Lanier High School. Erin Morrow scored her 1000th point for the Cougars and Akilah Guzman scored for the first time as a Cougar.

The milestones were celebrated in a poem by Jodie Morrow and Coach Margaret Dilworth.

‘Twas the night of the Chattahoochee basketball game,
And all through the stands,
Parents were anxious and so were the fans.
Only 13 points needed to reach the goal,
The anticipation was building in the crowd as a whole.

With nine points in the first half, Erin Morrow was well on her way,
But by the third quarter, everyone worried it would not be today.
Soon everyone knew that could not be the case,
With points 999 and 1,000, the milestone she could taste.
The crowd stood cheering, all happy as could be,
And the coach hugged his player for everyone to see.

The excitement didn't end as the fans wanted more,
For small and mighty Akilah Guzman was now on the floor.
With time running out, she broke their press,
Driving to the basket she relieved our stress.
The stands went wild as Akilah scored her first points!
That’s two for Guzman, she never disappoints!

It was plain for everyone to see,
That Coach Q and his staff were proud as can be.
His two senior players were well on their way,
With bright futures ahead, they’ll graduate in May.

The Chattahoochee girls said goodnight,
Beating Lanier, who put up quite a fight.
As the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 59-33,
The Varsity girls were happy as could be.

And as the players were nestled all snug in their beds,
Visions of state championships danced in their heads.
Two points for Akliah, 1,000 for Erin – WOW! What a sight!
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
