They represent the beautiful sounds by the trumpets which herald in Tchaikovsky's famous Piano concerto No.1 . How many of you  are old enough to remember 1958 when a young 23 year old Texan named van Cliburn played this music and won the very first International Piano competition held in Tchaikovsky's homeland of Russia in the city of Moscow?  His performance was billed as the "the Texan who conquered Russia". This was at the peak of the cold war by the two superpowers, USA and Russia. News of his accomplishment circled the globe much like sputnik did in the heavens above. A renewed interest in the classics was born and with the Piano concerto  No.1 recording, over one million copies were sold and the first ever  Platinum album award for classical music was born. Van Cliburn died nearly a year ago on February 27, 2013. Come join us on February 1, 2014 when our renowned pianist Piotr Folkert will perform at the Theaterer of Johns Creek High beginning 8 pm.

There the JCSO will be presenting an exceptional night of music featuring internationally renowned pianist Piotr Folkert performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 in B-flat Minor. Other selections on the program will include the Polonaise from Eugene Oneign, and then Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4. Mr. Folkert’s "stellar technique and insightful interpretations" have won him consistent critical acclaim and enthusiastic audiences worldwide. His performing schedule regularly takes him to the great concert stages of North America, Europe, and the Far East. We are thrilled to bring you this exciting musical collaboration!
