Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Lovely Emmie couldn't believe it when her family packed up and moved away, leaving her behind. This beautiful green-eyed Russian Blue mix (who is about 4 years old) was left to fend for herself before one of Angels Among Us volunteers realized that she had been abandoned and asked us to take her into our adoption program. Those who have met Emmie are baffled at how anyone could have treated this super nice cat so cruelly. Although still a little scared in her new home at the group's PETCO adoption center (So much activity! So many other cats! Dogs going by!), volunteers have already …
Coco Puff is a sweet Siamese/tabby mix with beautiful blue eyes and chocolate, cream and white markings. She is estimated to be 3 years old. Coco was asked to be taken in by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue after her owner lost her home and had to give up both her and Sweet Pea (since adopted). Coco has now been in an Angels foster home for about a month. Coco is timid when she first meets people, but warms up when she gets to know and trust someone. In fact, she likes to kiss her foster mom's hand when she pets her. She is playful and especially likes her toy mice which she knocks off her cat tree…
Handsome Shrek and beautiful Fiona thought their lives had taken a turn for the better, and were in what everyone had hoped was a forever home. Each of them had started out life in a county animal shelter, and were adopted when they were kittens by a loving family. Sadly, the family’s youngest daughter developed severe allergies and a new situation for these cats was desperately needed. Angels cat volunteers stepped in, and these lovely felines are now officially part of the group’s adoption program. Although Shrek and Fiona are not related, they have been raised together since they were at …
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is looking for a great home for two lovely sisters named Gracie and Ginger. These cats came to the organization when their previous owner fell on hard times and he was no longer able to keep them.  They are now living at the group’s cat adoption center at the Johns Creek PETCO located at 10980 State Bridge Road. (Rex, their brother, was also available but has been adopted by Patch photographer Ortenzio Mastroianni!) In terms of their personalities, “brave” may never be a word that will describe Gracie, but sweet sure is.  She is shy when she first meets someone, but…
Smitty is an adorable little Maltese mix who weighs less than eight pounds. He was recently found in the middle of a busy road by a good samaritan family who searched without success to find his owner. Perhaps this was a good thing: Poor Smitty, who is about 8 years old, was covered with matted fur, was not neutered, had a collar but no ID tag nor microchip, and was clearly scared to death.   Now in a loving foster home provided by a volunteer from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, Smitty looks like a different dog.  All of his fur had to be shaved off because of the mats, and he has since been …
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue volunteers rescued Layla from the Fulton County Animal Shelter and were told that there was abuse in her past. They first fell in love with her soft gray and white fur (very Russian Blue-like) and her beautiful green eyes. Then, they fell in love with Layla herself. She clearly showed signs of a troubled past: This young cat (about 10 months old now) alternated between being extremely sweet and craving attention, and getting crabby when she felt enough was enough with a human encounter. She did not do well at the group's PETCO adoption center, so she is now in a …
Handsome Leo somehow ended up abandoned and living on his own in a North Fulton County neighborhood. This 5-year-old big boy started accompanying a couple on their daily walk with their dogs. They said he had such a great personality — they would talk to him while he was walking with them and he would talk back. After a few weeks of these daily walks, he took up residence on their porch, and they realized they needed to find this sweet guy a forever home. They invited him into their own home, got his vet work taken care of, and asked Angels Among Us Pet Rescue if the group would accept him …
According to the Angels Among Us cat volunteers, Dovey is a unique little cat. She has never had a real home as far as they know, and they'd love to find a wonderful home for this cutie pie. Here's how Angels' Cat Program Coordinator, Deborah Smith, describes Dovey: "We’ll start out by saying that everyone who meets Dovey completely falls in love with her. Calling her sweet doesn’t do her justice. She is simply a lovely little cat who loves everyone, is very mellow, and who doesn’t let anything phase her. She likes people, other cats (and other cats all seem to like her), and dogs. She is …
Meet Missy, a pit bull mix from Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. The group named her Missy because the breed is so misunderstood — she is the sweetest dog and so well behaved. She is being fostered by one of the group’s founders. Missy is very affectionate. She loves to cuddle, and any open lap is fair game. Missy gives lots of kisses and always has a smile on her face. She gets along great with other dogs, is very friendly and wants to say hello to everyone — with tail wagging. She will fetch a tennis ball and loves to play tug-of-war with Amazing Yargo, her foster buddy. They are both wonderful …
This week's featured pet has such a sad history. The cat program volunteers of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue first learned about this 11-month-old cat through an email from a concerned pet lover in South Georgia. It seems that when her neighbors first took in a stray kitten, they decided that she would eat less — thereby saving them some money — if she were kept confined instead of allowed to roam around the house. She consequently lived most of her life in a small cage and was only allowed out twice a day to use a litter box. Essentially, she was a prisoner for almost all her life. When hearing…
Bernie is a handsome 3-year-old white and brown tabby who needs to find a loving home. Bernie was abandoned when his owners moved out of their apartment, and Angels Among Us Pet Rescue volunteers took him in prior to his being picked up by animal control. He is what is sometimes call a "Tabico," and his brown tabby markings are mixed with beautiful white colors. He is an athletic cat. Bernie is now in a foster home, and has come a long way since he was rescued. His foster family says he is loaded with personality and that whoever adopts him will be crazy about him. He is usually extremely …
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is looking for a great home for Hemingway, a cat left behind by his previous owners at a Duluth apartment complex. One of the Angels volunteers found this friendly but confused brown tabby huddled under one of the apartment buildings. Shortly after taking him in, giving him a good meal and providing him with some much needed TLC, she noticed something unusual about the now-purring feline. Hemingway is a polydactyl cat, sometimes called  a "Hemingway"cat, named after a cat colony in Key West where the famous author lived. These cats have an extra toe, sometimes …
Lovely Lucy Lu and Lilly Lu were rescued from euthanization at a North Georgia county animal shelter. They spent most of their young lives in a loving foster home, and were ultimately accepted into the Angels Among Us Pet Rescue Adoption program when the rescue group caring for them experienced operational difficulties. Angels volunteers believe these young cats are about 10 to 11 months old. They are probably sisters, as they came from the same cage at the shelter. They do have certain similarities, including Siamese-like bone structure, size and temperament. However, Lilly Lu has the look of…
Kelsie and Krissie are adorable kittens who need a forever family to love.  Angels Among Us Pet Rescue first learned of the plight of these kittens when the cat program volunteers received an email from a county animal shelter south of Atlanta. An Angels volunteer drove down to the shelter and returned with 11 adult cats and kittens. Among this group of rescued felines were four tiny kittens who had been turned in by someone who had failed to spay their mother. These kittens were not weaned when Angels Among Us took them in and, and despite the volunteers' best efforts, two kittens from this …
What does Alice, a 1 1/2-year old Stafford Terrier, want for Valentine’s Day? According to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, all she wants is her very own humans to love who will love her back. Alice was rescued last summer from a high-kill county animal shelter. She was pregnant, confused about why her owners had abandoned her and scared. Sadly, she lost her puppies. However, she fully recovered from her difficult times and has blossomed in a loving foster home. She now has a beautiful chocolate brown coat with a white blaze on her chest, and with the good food she's been getting, her coat shines …
Several months ago, Angels Among Us Pet Rescue received a call from a small animal control facility in northwest Atlanta. The group learned that the agency (actually run by the police department) had no facility for cats, and that generally cats and kittens were euthanized three days after entry. The police officer told Angels that she had an incredibly sweet and pretty tortoiseshell cat and four kittens who had been turned in their owner. The owner had allowed Amber (as she was later named) to get pregnant, and didn't want to deal with her once she had given birth to the kittens. The officer…
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue is helping a special kitten find a new home. Leela was taken in by the organization’s veterinary clinic, Peach Pets Animal Hospital, after a client asked for help. The client had been volunteering in a low-income housing area and came across a kitten that had been abandoned. Even sadder, the little brown-and-white kitten had lost her left eye. Dr. Stephanie Smith and her staff decided to take Leela under their wing and provided complete vet care for her, including suturing the lid where her missing eye had been. Since that time, she has lived in the clinic, although…
Faith was rescued by an Angels Among Us Pet Rescue volunteer, and is now safe in a foster home. However, because she does not get along with other animals, she must live in a downstairs office and is lonely. Angels Among Us would like to find her a forever home where she will be a member of the family. A video of Faith can be viewed at www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16029960. Faith was discovered by a county animal control officer after she had been left in a house for more than a month without food or water. Her owner had been taken to a nursing home and Faith had been left behind. By the time …
Out of all the sad cases of neglect that the Angels Among Us Pet Rescue volunteers have seen, one tan and white cat has particularly touched their hearts. When rescued, Buddy was just a kitten, and was thin, frightened, had badly infected eyes, and was sick to the point of death.   After a great deal of patience and TLC from the volunteers, Buddy is now 2 years old and has learned that there are good people whom he can trust. Initially timid with strangers, he is actually quite affectionate with people he knows. He loves to be brushed and petted (especially that itchy spot right in front of …
Harper, a lab mix, was rescued from a rural shelter along with her two sisters. She was five pounds and about 8 weeks old when she was rescued.  For two weeks, everything was fine until Harper started sneezing.  In 48 hours she was fighting for her life in an oxygen chamber in the ICU.    Angels Among Us Pet Rescue members and fans raised money so they could help her fight. On the third day in the ICU, she was able to come out of the oxygen and breath on her own. She lived in her foster mom's bathroom for two weeks with a humidifier, on lots of antibiotics and having her chest "coupaged" …
