The annual Locks of Love Cut-A-Thon brought more than 100 donors to Taylor Brooks Salon.
For some, having hair would be wonderful. But on Monday atTaylor Brooks Salon in Johns Creek, it was all about cutting it off to help those girls who suffer from long-term medical hair loss. Locks of Love creates and provides custom hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Naomi Kolosna, a student at Medlock Bridge Elementary, said she saw the event in her school's newsletter, so she decided to donate. "My friends started doing it and it sounded really interesting," she said. Katie McGivney, 11, could be forgiven for being a little anxious as her ponytails were being cut. The manufacturer recalled nine different brands of its dry dog food, including Kirkland Signature Foods.
Diamond Pet Foods recently expanded a voluntary recall to include batches of nine brands of dry pet food formulas manufactured between Dec. 9, 2011, and April 7, 2012, due to potential Salmonella contamination. A local reader asked about the recall, so Patch is providing this information from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). You can sign up for recall alerts from the FDA online, or subscribe to an RSS feed. In April 2012, Diamond Pet Foods initiated three voluntary recalls of Diamond manufactured dry dog food. Supporters of the 10-year, regional sales tax met in Alpharetta to raise funds to educate voters on the proposal.
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Metro Atlanta Chamber President Sam Williams were two supporters of the transportation sales tax referendum who made their way to Alpharetta Tuesday night to lobby for its passage. The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce hosted a fundraiser at its offices to answer questions about the transportation referendum, which will go before voters on July 31. They also were ready to collect checks on behalf of the Citizens for Transportation Mobility to continue what they call an education process. The Johns Creek City Council on Monday approved an amendment to the alcohol ordinance, authorizing the sell of growlers, or sealed specialty beer to go, derived from a tap on site. But the vote didn't come without debate, and not just anyone can sell the item, which has been a hot trend lately with nearby Alpharetta and Duluth authorizing growler sales. Limitations on who can sell growlers include: The 90 percent rule sparked the most debate, with councilmember Brad Raffensperger offering up an amendment to strike that limitation.
