'Waffle House Always Open': Winter Storm Update

Schools closed Tuesday; some residents venture out.

Johns Creek slowly came to life Monday as some residents ventured out on foot to enjoy the snow, take in the winter wonderland sights or simply get to work.

The Waffle House on Jones Bridge Road was open and saw a steady stream of customers. According to employee Mark Shelton, as of 2 p.m. Monday the restaurant had served some 95 diners.

Shelton was able to make it to work because he lives nearby and decided to walk. "The Waffle House is always open," he said. "Customers are here so we have to be here." He added that from his observations it seemed that motorists with front-wheel drive were having more luck in the weather.

Meanwhile, Rosemary Taylor, public information officer for Johns Creek, said the city had seen little in the way of storm-related incidents, reporting that as of 1:45 p.m. on Monday the public safety department had just one report of a stranded motorist.

And the kids will have another snow day – Fulton County schools will be closed on Tuesday.
