Roswell's Alive After 5 Expands to Square
Expect some fun new and returning extras during tonight's Alive After 5, Thursday, Aug. 16.
Months of preparation will culminate in Roswell's largest Alive After 5 event to date tonight, Thursday, Aug. 16, with the addition of Alive at the Square and new street closure times.
Alive at the Square will extend the popular Canton Street party all the way down to the historic Roswell Square, at Mimosa Boulevard and Highway 120. As an iteration of the Canton Street event, attendees can expect later business hours, vendors and music to all be a part of the extended celebration around the Square.
Back down at the original end of the monthly summer event, the southern portion of Canton Street will once again close from Norcross to Magnolia streets. But this month the road will close two hours later than in July to help ease rush hour traffic, Alive After 5 organizer Sally Johnson told Roswell Patch in an e-mail.
The street will now close from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Make plans to take an alternative route around the closure.
Here are a few of the extras you can expect during tonight's Alive After 5 and Alive at the Square:
- Food trucks will be parked along Park Square during Alive at the Square. Click here for a list of five Atlanta Food Truck Coalition trucks expected and the kind of food they serve.
- Shear Bliss Salon will be setting up a chair outside their 967 Canton Street shop offering free haircuts to anyone wishing to donate at least 11 inches of hair to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to children with medical hair loss. The salon is a Locks of Love partner and will mail the hair for donors, as well as present them with a certificate. Reservations are not needed, but a call-ahead is nice, salon owner Tony Eid told Roswell Patch. 770-640-9313
- Looking for something to do after dinner and shopping? Swing dance the evening away at the Historic Roswell Cottage with Satin Alley Jazz, a 1940s style big band music and dance group. The show is free from 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Laughing Matters improv comedy group is expected to perform during the breaks.
- As always, local musicians will perform through the historic district during Alive After 5. The Mike Watson Band will perform at Plum Tree Village and the Big Biscuit Band will be at the Heart of Roswell Park.
