Patriots Qualify for State Tournament

Pisgah basketball squares off against Wesleyan tonight after OT win.

The Mount Pisgah Christian School boys basketball team qualified for its first GHSA state playoff berth on Wednesday with a 59-55 overtime win over Holy Innocents. Brain Ginty and Ben Miller each hit four free throws in overtime for the win.

The Patriots will continue play in the semifinals of the Region 5-A tournament on Friday against Wesleyan. Games on Friday and Saturday will determine the Region 5-A seeds for the state playoffs. Providence and St. Francis will meet in the other semifinal. The championship and consolation games will be played on Saturday at Wesleyan.

Wednesday’s game was a see-saw battle where the Patriots (17-9) trailed by three at the half, but held a five point lead at the end of the third quarter. A Holy Innocents (14-12) basket with 13.9 seconds remaining in the game tied the score at 51, where it remained for the remainder of regulation.

In his first season at the helm, Pisgah coach Marvin Latham has guided the Patriots to their most wins (17) since joining the GHSA.
