Northview Students Attend Safety Conference

Students from  came together Feb. 3 and 4 to join the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) at the 2012 Youth and Young Adult Leadership Conference at Callaway Gardens.

The conference, which was attended by approximately 400 students and advisors from nearly 60 high schools and colleges across Georgia, was designed to bring together student-advocates of highway safety and focus on new ways to communicate life-saving ideas to their fellow high school and college students.

“We were proud to include the students from Northview in this year’s Youth and Young Adult Conference,” said GOHS Director Harris Blackwood. “We lose far too many young people to crash deaths every year and we went directly to the source to discuss new ways of saving the lives of our teen and young adult drivers.”

GOHS launched the annual youth safety conference concept nearly 10 years ago to spread the important messages of buckling up, slowing down in your vehicle, not drinking and driving and eliminating texting while driving. 

With a theme of “Motivate, Innovate, Celebrate,” this year’s conference included hundreds of students from Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapters all over Georgia.

The conference lines up local and nationally recognized motivational speakers and presented workshops targeted specifically for high school and college students. Special exhibitors were also on hand to help spread the targeted message of safety to all participants.
