Man Arrested for Urinating on Sidewalk
The following information was supplied by the Johns Creek Police Department.
A Roswell man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for urinating on the sidewalk and going through trash cans in front of a business on Old Alabama Road.
A Johns Creek Police officer was dispatched to Daza Dance Academy. He spoke with the owner, who explained that she had seen a man urinating on the sidewalk and then going through the garbage cans.
She told the officer she continued to watch the man as he walked to the corner of the building and urinated again. The woman told police that there have been issues with this man multiple times per week at her business. Employees at the business told the officer that they are afraid of the man, and that they have had numerous complaints from customers regarding him.
The police officer located the subject at the opposite end of the building. The officer said he recognized the subject as a man for whom the police department has received numerous complaints.
The officer asked the man why he urinated on the sidewalk, and he said he "had to go."
The officer arrested the man for disorderly conduct and transported him to the Alpharetta jail. The officer spoke with the nurse on duty regarding the subject's mental and psychological state. The nurse stated that the man would not be admitted to the jail. She provided the officer with a doctor's evaluation from his last arrest that listed numerous psychological issues.
Based on previous incidents with the man and the officer's recent communication with the subject's primary caregiver, the officer stated in the police report that the man had been off his medication since at least a previous arrest on June 6, and that the man's family cannot afford to keep him on his medication consistently.
The officer brought the suspect to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he was admitted to receive a mental health evaluation.
The man was issued a citation for disorderly conduct with a court date, and was released to the hospital.
The officer attempted to notify the man's family of his whereabouts, but the telephone number had been disconnected.

There are 4 other major hospitals, at least, between Alpharetta and Grady. There are no others in between that offer mental health care?

I wonder if this is the same man we have seen on several occassions for the past year or, so. He's an older black man, and appeared unkempt and homeless, exhibiting symptoms of mental illness; hitting at the air and talking aloud. When I saw him last week, he was walking dow Kimball Bridge Rd wearing a winter coat and carrying many mismatched plastic bags. This is so sad, and possibly dangerous for himself and others.

Mary, your description matches that in the police report. I have seen the man you are referring to on Kimball Bridge as well. Very sad situation.

sad situation, unfortunately there are thousands out there like him; arrested, medically evaluated, given a court date and thrown back on the street again - uncaring vicious circle. next time you see a guy like him, buy him a burger and or stick a couple of bucks in his pocket. costs you very little but means a lot to him.
