Kids Invited to 'Meet the Orchestra'

Elementary and middle school students can learn from Johns Creek Symphony.

Elementary and middle school students in the Johns Creek area will have a chance to meet and learn from Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra musicians.

“Meet the Orchestra!” takes place Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Wilson Creek Elementary School. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased either at the JCSO website or at Wilson Creek.

"It's a fun discovery of musical instruments, instrument families and how they all come together to form an orchestra," said Sue Haggerty, the orchestra's executive director.

Children will learn what makes up a symphony orchestra. They will see and hear how strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and timpani are played and how they fit into the orchestra seating chart. The students will also have the chance to meet the musicians and possibly get the chance to play with them.

"Stan-the-Music-Man," will lead the program, while Maestro J. Wayne Baughman, music director of JCSO will also be on hand.

For more information, email info@johnscreeksymphony.org or call (678) 748-5802. Funding for this program was made possible by grants from theCity of Johns Creek and the Georgia Council for the Arts.
