Johns Creek Police say Aslam was originally reported missing around 10 a.m. April 27, but returned home unharmed on May 5.

He told investigators he left on his own accord because he did not want to tell his parents he was failing an English course for a second time at Georgia Gwinnett College, according to a press release from Johns Creek Police Department.

Aslam camped out in an undeveloped part of Forsyth County "until the weather turned cold and rainy," according to the press release. He initially told police he was drugged and kept prisoner, but later recanted that story.

His parents reported him missing after they received a text message saying their son had been kidnapped and "warning them not to call the police or their son would be killed," the release reads.

Johns Creek Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted an "intensive" investigation, and later discovered the phone that was used to send the text message was located near Aslam's home. They later determined Aslam purchased the phone at a nearby Target.
