Founder Nick Koulouris opened the first Grecian Gyro in 1982 in Hapeville, Ga., with $50 in his pocket and his family’s secret sauce recipe in his head. His goal was to deliver the best gyros and Grecian fare reminiscent of what he grew up eating and cooking as a young man in Kalamata, Greece.

Over the past 30 years, Nick, along with his sons, George and Pano, has expanded Grecian Gyro to three locations, winning “Atlanta’s Best Gyro” from Atlanta magazine in the process. In 2009, the Koulouris brothers made plans to grow their operation, negotiating franchise agreements in Georgia.
