Exercise Doesn't Have to be a Chore
Looking for fun ways to get in shape? Check out these options.
Who says working out has to be boring? If getting into better physical condition is one of your goals, remember that you probably won't stick to a fitness regime that you don't enjoy. So, if walking on a treadmill every day sounds like a chore, seek out ways to change up your routine, get fit and have fun at the same time.
If the word “exercise” makes you groan, try substituting the word “activity.” Activities — like hiking, canoeing, bike riding or taking an evening stroll — that we do with family and friends or solo — surely seem like a lot more fun than “exercise.”
Think about activities you enjoy and then imagine how you might incorporate them into a regular exercise plan. For example, if you like to swim, many gyms and aquatic centers, such as Swim Atlanta (4050 Johns Creek Parkway, 770-622-1735) and Dynamo Swim Center (5075 Abbotts Bridge Road, 770-772-6789) offer lap swimming and water exercise classes.
Do you like to play video and computer games? Invest in a Wii Fit Plus (wiifit.com) video game console and participate in a wide variety of activities, from yoga to skateboarding, that offer aerobic benefits and strength training.
Dancing is another enjoyable way to achieve fitness. Classes that incorporate different types of dancing along with peppy music to get you moving, such as Jazzercise, can help you strengthen core muscles, sculpt your body, lose weight and body fat, improve your balance and posture, and much more.
Jessica Wall, owner of Jazzercise Johns Creek Fitness Center, explains that the Jazzercise workout program combines jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing movements into one 60-minute total body workout taught by a certified fitness instructor. The easy-to-follow routines include a warm-up, cardio workout, strength training with weights and stretching. The diversity of activities within the workout keeps it fun and interesting.
Wall says that one of the major keys to achieving fitness is finding an exercise routine you can stick with. "For customers wanting to make a change in their fitness level — whether it's weight loss, toning and tightening their muscles, or improving cardiovascular health — consistency is the key," she explains. "I've found that for my customers and for myself, finding a program that moves and motivates and is fun — like Jazzercise — has made it easy to be consistent."
Jazzercise Johns Creek Fitness Center is located at 6000 Medlock Bridge Parkway. For more information, call 404-395-3473, click here or find it on Facebook.
Whatever your activities preferences are, adopt some fun ways to get moving and be consistent with your efforts and you’ll soon notice an increase in your fitness level.
